FAQ

1. What is modular synthesis?

Modular synthesis is a way of making electronic music using individual devices called modules. Each module does one thing, like creating a tone, shaping a sound, changing pitch or controlling rhythm. You connect them with patch cables to design your own instrument. It is like building your dream synthesizer and/or live electronic music machine from scratch!

2. How is this different from using a DAW or software synth?

In a DAW or plugin, everything happens inside your computer. With modular, everything happens in the real world using actual voltage signals. Turning knobs and patching cables directly changes the sound in real time. Many people find it more creative and hands-on compared to using a mouse and screen.

3. Why would I want to use modular gear?

If you enjoy sound design, experimenting, or performing live, modular opens up a lot of possibilities. You can create sounds that no preset or plugin can make. It is also very visual and interactive, which makes it feel more like playing an instrument than programming one.

4. What is a Eurorack system?

Eurorack is a standard format for modular synthesizers developed by Doepfer Musikelektronik. It defines the size of the modules, the type of power they use, and how they connect. Most modular gear today follows this standard, so you can mix and match modules from different brands freely.

5. What do I need to get started?

You need three basic things:

  • A Eurorack case with a power supply to hold and power your modules

  • A few modules to create and shape sound

  • Patch cables to connect everything

That is all you need to start exploring!

6. What are the most common types of modules?

  • Oscillator – generates sound

  • Filter – shapes the tone

  • VCA – controls volume and dynamics

  • LFO / Envelope – creates motion and modulation

  • Sequencer – creates patterns or rhythms

You can think of these as different parts of a synthesizer that you can rearrange however you like.

7. Can I use modular synths with my computer or DAW?

Yes, with the right gear. You can send MIDI or clock signals from your DAW into your modular using a MIDI-to-CV converter or certain audio interfaces, or record audio from modular into your DAW using any audio interface. Many people use modular as an extension of their computer setup.

8. Do your modules work with other brands?

Yes. All our modules follow the Eurorack standard, so they work perfectly with other Eurorack brands like Make Noise, Mutable Instruments, Doepfer, Intellijel, and others.

9. Are modular synths only for experimental music?

Not at all. Modular can be used for techno, ambient, hip-hop, film scoring, live looping, or even sound design for video games. It depends on what you patch and how you patch it.

10. Is modular synthesis difficult to learn?

It looks intimidating at first, but the basics are simple once you understand the signal flow. You do not need to know electronics or coding. If you can follow the idea of "sound goes here, then here," you can learn modular quickly.

11. Are these modules made in India?

Yes. All our modules are designed, assembled, and tested in India. Our goal is to make modular synthesizers more accessible, repairable, and affordable for musicians here.

12. Do you offer support or help for beginners?

Yes! We are happy to help you plan your first setup, explain how things connect, and guide you through the basics.

13. How do I power these modules?

Eurorack modules run on ±12V power supplied by your case. Each module comes with a ribbon cable that connects to the power bus inside your case. Plugging it in correctly is important; on that front, our modules come with keyed power headers that only allow plugging in the power cable one way. But in general, remember the golden rule: RED STRIPE = -12V! Always match the red stripe to the orientation shown on your module's circuit board!

14. Can modular gear get damaged easily?

Not if you treat it with care. Modular synths are built to be tough and last a long time, but because they run on real electrical signals, a few basic precautions help keep everything safe:

  • Power connections: Always check the orientation of the ribbon cable before turning on your case. Plugging it in backwards can damage a module. Our modules have keyed connectors to make this easy.

  • Handling: Try not to touch the circuit board directly. Handle modules by the edges and avoid static electricity buildup when installing.

  • Patch cables: Insert and remove cables gently, and never force a connection.

  • Compatible gear only: Use equipment made for the Eurorack standard (±12V). Avoid connecting other electronics directly unless you’re sure they’re safe for modular use.

If you follow these simple steps, your system will stay healthy for years. Our modules also include built-in protection features like reverse polarity and short-circuit protection for extra safety.

Pro Tip: Always power off your case before adding, removing, or re-patching modules — it’s the simplest way to prevent accidents.

15. Do you ship across India?

Yes. We ship safely packed, tracked orders across India. Every module is tested and protected with anti-static materials before dispatch.
